GOOD BYE TOW TRUCK

JB says bye to rude tow-truck drivers
By TEH ENG HOCK
COMPLAINTS pertaining to rude, high-handed tow truck drivers hauling away illegally parked cars around the city over the past three years is expected to drop beginning Jan 1.
Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) Mayor Datuk Wahid Dahalan assured the public that the problems would not recur under his staff who would take over all towing activities beginning Sunday.
The council did not renew the contract of a private tow truck operator after it expired as of Dec 31 last year.
“We have enough manpower to carry out the task. Currently we have 180 personnel in the traffic division.
“Back in 2002, we signed a three-year contract as we lacked trained staff to tow away cars parked indiscriminately. But we have trained them now,” he said, adding that MBJB also had its own tow trucks.
Wahid, who spoke to the press after conducting a field trip to the Majidee Zone, added that the council would strive for continuous improvement.
“We want to improve on efficiency and be able to address issues raised by residents as soon as possible,” he said.
When asked to comment on MBJB having the second highest number of indiscipline cases among its staff, Wahid said that action had been taken against those who abused their powers.
Parliamentary Secretary in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Mohd Johari Baharum had told the Dewan Negara in December that Kuala Lumpur City Hall and Johor Baru City Hall had the most indiscipline cases among local councils with 90 and 52 cases respectively.
